Privacy Policy

Version 2.3 (October 14, 2026): A ChatGPT lineup link keeps the draft in the address fragment, after the # sign. The browser does not send that fragment to our servers or to our hosting logs. The lineup page does not load Vercel Web Analytics, Vercel Speed Insights, Google Analytics, or advertising pixels. On other pages, this policy names Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. Meta, TikTok, and X pixels load only after you accept cookies. A draft you ask us to email still stays for up to 7 days, or until you open the sign-in link.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information when you use LineChange (“the Service”):

  • Account Information: Email address and authentication credentials when you create an account.
  • Team & Roster Data: Player names, jersey numbers, positions, and other roster information you enter.
  • Usage Data: Analytics events such as page views, feature usage, shares, and session duration.
  • Device & Browser Information: IP address, screen size, browser type, operating system, and referring URLs.
  • Cookies & Tracking Technologies: Cookies, pixels, web beacons, and similar technologies as described in Section 6 below.
  • ChatGPT lineup requests: If you use the LineChange app in ChatGPT, we receive the roster details needed to draft lines. If you ask for a sign-in link on linechange.app, we also store that draft and your email for a short time. What we receive, what we keep, and for how long is described under “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” below.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Personalize your experience and recommend features
  • Send important service-related communications
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve features and performance
  • Prevent fraud and ensure security
  • Display advertising and sponsored content within the Service
  • Measure advertising effectiveness on behalf of our advertising partners
  • Send marketing communications and newsletters (with your consent)

3. Advertising & Retargeting

LineChange is a free, ad-supported service. To keep the Service free, we work with advertising partners who may collect and use information about your activity on our site to display targeted advertisements both on LineChange and on other websites or platforms you visit.

What this means:

  • Our advertising partners may place tracking pixels and cookies on our pages to collect browsing data. Meta, TikTok, and X pixels load only after you accept cookies, and they do not load on the page that opens a ChatGPT lineup.
  • This data may be used to build an interest-based advertising profile and show you relevant ads on other sites (retargeting).
  • Partners may include, but are not limited to: Google Ads, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, and X (Twitter) advertising platforms.
  • We may share anonymized or aggregated audience data (e.g., “hockey parents aged 30-45”) with sponsors and advertising partners.
  • We do not share your name, email, roster data, or other personally identifiable information directly with advertisers.

You can opt out of interest-based advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices or networkadvertising.org/choices.

4. Data Storage & Security

Account and roster data you save in LineChange are stored using Supabase, which provides enterprise-grade security including encryption at rest and in transit, row-level security policies, and regular backups. A lineup drafted only in ChatGPT is not written to that database. If you ask for a sign-in link on linechange.app, we store that draft and your email there until you open the link or until 7 days have passed. After you open the link, the lineup is saved on your account and that temporary copy is deleted. See “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” below. We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information we store. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following categories of third-party services:

  • Infrastructure: Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Vercel (hosting)
  • AI Services: OpenAI (text-to-speech for Hype Mode, roster OCR parsing). ChatGPT is also an OpenAI service. If you use the LineChange app there, OpenAI processes that conversation. Our lineup address answers ChatGPT. It does not start its own call to OpenAI. See “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” below.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics (only after you accept cookies), Vercel Web Analytics, and Vercel Speed Insights. The page that opens a ChatGPT lineup does not load these.
  • Advertising: Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and X Pixel. Meta, TikTok, and X pixels load only after you accept cookies, and they do not load on the page that opens a ChatGPT lineup. These partners may set their own cookies and collect data as described in their privacy policies.
  • Email: Newsletter and transactional email providers

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

The LineChange app in ChatGPT

LineChange offers an optional app inside ChatGPT. You can read this section before you connect it. You do not need a LineChange account to draft lines. When the app is turned on, ChatGPT can call a public address on our site, https://www.linechange.app/mcp. That address has two read-only tools. One drafts lines from a roster you provide. The other explains how lines are set and does not take a roster. Neither tool reads a LineChange account, creates a team, sends a message, or publishes a share link. The address does not connect to our database. Drafting lines in ChatGPT does not write a roster there. If you open the draft on linechange.app and ask us to email you a sign-in link, we store that draft and the email you enter, as described under Retention below.

Categories of personal data

If you ask ChatGPT to build lines, you type the roster into ChatGPT first. ChatGPT may then send our address the details needed for that request. Those details are each player's name, jersey number, and position; an optional skill note of up to 140 characters; whether a player is not dressing; a team name and an opponent name if you gave them; how many forward lines and defense pairs to open; a format of 5-on-5, 4-on-4, or 3-on-3; and a site language of English, French, Swedish, Finnish, or Czech. If you move players in the in-chat panel, the panel sends the slot you chose for each player so the link matches the panel. The advice tool sends only a topic and a language. It does not send a roster. We also use the IP address on the request to enforce a rate limit, as described below. If you ask for a sign-in link on linechange.app, we also receive the email address you type there. ChatGPT does not collect that email.

Purposes

We use the roster details only to calculate a lineup and return it in the ChatGPT response. The response includes the players' names, numbers, and positions, the slots, who is not dressing, who is on the bench, a short summary, and a link to the same draft on LineChange. A skill note is used only as a hint for which line a player is placed on. The note is not included in the response, and it is not included in the link. We use the IP address only to limit repeated calls. We do not use the ChatGPT roster, or that IP address, to advertise, to build a profile, or to recognize you on a later visit. If you ask for a sign-in link, we use the stored draft and that email to send the link, to confirm it is you who opens it, and to create a new team and lineup on your account. We use the email for that claim only. We do not use it to advertise or to build a profile.

Rate limiting and server logs

The lineup address accepts at most 30 requests per minute from one IP address. We read that address from the request and keep a short counter in memory on the server that handled the request. The counter is not written to our database. On our host, the limit applies on each server separately. It is not one global quota. This is a security control. It is not advertising, and it is not a record of your roster. If a request fails, we log a short error message and not the roster. Ordinary hosting logs may still include the IP address, the time, and the page address. The lineup draft is in the fragment of the handoff link. Hosting logs do not include that fragment.

Retention

We do not store the roster, the skill notes, or the lineup while you are only drafting lines in ChatGPT. The lineup address does not write to our database. A skill note is not stored, and it is not included in the link. If you open the draft on linechange.app and ask us to email you a sign-in link, we store that draft and the email address you enter. We keep them for up to 7 days, or until you open the link, whichever comes first. The stored draft is the lineup the link already carries: the team name, the opponent, the format, the line and pair counts, the language, and each player's name, jersey number, and position, plus the slots and who is not dressing. It does not contain skill notes. We use the email only to send the link and to check that the person who opens it is the person who asked for it. Opening the link signs you in. If you do not already have an account, we create one. We then create a new team, a roster with those numbers and positions, and the lineup. We do not change teams you already saved. The claim can succeed only once. After it succeeds, we delete the email and the draft from that pending row. The lineup then lives on your account, and the retention rules in the rest of this policy apply to it. If you open the same link again before those 7 days end, we take you to that lineup. We do not create a second team. If you never open the link, we delete the draft and the email after 7 days. We delete expired rows when a sign-in link is requested and when an expired link is opened. We do not run a separate scheduled job for that deletion. An expired draft is not used. Anyone who has the link can view that draft. The link can remain in your browser history and in the ChatGPT conversation. The draft is in the fragment of the page address, the part after the # sign. Your browser does not send that fragment to our servers, so the roster in the link is not written to our hosting logs for that page view. We set Referrer-Policy to no-referrer on that page, so the address is not passed to another site you open from it, and we ask search engines not to index the page. That page does not load Vercel Web Analytics, Vercel Speed Insights, Google Analytics, or advertising pixels. On the rest of the site, Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights run, and Google Analytics loads only after you accept cookies. Meta, TikTok, and X pixels also load only after you accept cookies, and they do not load on this page.

Youth players

LineChange is used for youth hockey. The ChatGPT app is meant for coaches, managers, and parents who are setting lines. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not ask a child to create an account or to enter their own information. For a youth player, send a first name or initials, a jersey number, and a position. Do not enter a birth date, home address, school name, phone number, email address, government identification number, medical or health information, or any other sensitive detail. The app tells ChatGPT not to ask for those details. If you type them into a skill note anyway, that note is sent to our address for the one request that builds the lines. We remove obvious health words from the note before we use it, and we do not return those words. We do not store the note, and we do not put it in the link. The words you typed still remain in the ChatGPT conversation, which OpenAI holds, and we cannot delete them from there. The email for a sign-in link is typed on linechange.app by the adult who asks for the link. ChatGPT does not collect it, and we do not ask a child for it.

Recipients

You send the conversation, including anything you type, to OpenAI, which operates ChatGPT. OpenAI then sends the lineup request to LineChange, and LineChange sends the calculated lineup back to that same request. We do not take the roster and send it to any other company. Our site is hosted by Vercel, which processes the request and keeps ordinary server logs. We do not sell this roster data, and we do not share it with advertisers as a list of players. Your use of ChatGPT is governed by OpenAI's Terms of Use and OpenAI's Privacy Policy. LineChange does not control how OpenAI stores the conversation, who at OpenAI can see it, or how long OpenAI keeps it.

Your controls

You can choose not to connect the app, and you choose what you type. You can disconnect the app in ChatGPT. You can delete the conversation with OpenAI's own tools. You can clear the lineup link from your browser history. If you asked for a sign-in link and have not opened it, we delete the stored draft and email after 7 days, or when the link is used. The rate limit cannot be turned off, because it protects the address from abuse. For personal data we hold in a LineChange account, including a team created when you claim a draft, use the Delete My Data button below or write to us through our contact page. We handle that request as described in the rights and deletion sections of this policy, and we respond within 30 days. That request does not delete the ChatGPT conversation, which OpenAI holds, or a lineup link left in your browser history.

Advertising & Retargeting

Placed by our advertising partners to build interest profiles and deliver targeted ads across the web. These may track your browsing activity across multiple sites. Meta, TikTok, and X pixels load only after you accept cookies.

You can manage your cookie preferences through the consent banner displayed on your first visit, or through your browser settings.

7. Data Sharing

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Advertising Partners: Anonymized browsing data and audience segments for ad targeting and measurement (see Section 3).
  • Service Providers: With third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, email), under contractual obligations to protect your data.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the acquiring entity.
  • ChatGPT: If you use the LineChange app, we return the calculated lineup to that ChatGPT request. We do not give that roster to advertisers as a list of players. Recipients, retention, and your controls are described under “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” below.

We do not sell your name, email address, roster data, or other directly identifiable personal information to third parties.

8. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Legal Basis: We process your data based on: (a) your consent, (b) contractual necessity to provide the Service, (c) our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service, and (d) legal obligations.
  • Right of Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling for advertising purposes.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, use the “Delete My Data” button below or contact us at our contact page. We will respond to your request within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. US State Privacy Rights

Residents of certain US states have additional privacy rights under state law, including but not limited to:

California (CCPA / CPRA)

  • Right to Know: What personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell.
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: We share browsing data with advertising partners for targeted advertising, which may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” under California law. You may opt out using the cookie consent banner or by contacting us.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
  • Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.

Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), and Other States

  • Right to access, correct, and delete your personal data.
  • Right to opt out of targeted advertising, sale of personal data, and profiling.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to appeal a denial of your privacy request.

To exercise any of these rights, use the “Delete My Data” button below or contact us at our contact page. We will verify your identity before processing your request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

10. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you request deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, legal claims). Anonymized and aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.

A roster sent only through the ChatGPT app is not kept in our database while you are drafting lines. If you ask for a sign-in link on linechange.app, we store that draft and your email for up to 7 days, or until you claim it. The section “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” explains that storage. The lineup link can remain in your browser history and in the ChatGPT conversation. The draft is in the fragment of that link. Our servers do not receive the fragment, so it is not in the hosting log for that page view.

11. Children's Privacy & Minor Player Data

LineChange accounts are intended for adults (coaches, team managers, and parents) who are at least 18 years old. Children do not create accounts or interact with the Service directly.

We recognize that roster data an adult saves in a LineChange account may include the names, jersey numbers, and positions of minor players. That is a core purpose of the Service. Information saved in an account is:

  • Entered and controlled solely by the adult account holder
  • Visible only to the account holder and anyone they explicitly choose to share it with (e.g., via a share link)
  • Limited to hockey-related information (name, number, position) — we do not collect contact information, photos, or other personal details of minor players
  • Never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for marketing purposes
  • Deleted when the account holder removes a player, deletes a team, or requests account deletion

The LineChange app in ChatGPT does not use a LineChange account. Please use a first name or initials for a youth player, and do not enter sensitive information. The section “The LineChange app in ChatGPT” says what the app receives, what we store when you ask for a sign-in link, and how that differs from roster data saved in an account.

If you believe a child under 13 has created an account on the Service, please contact us immediately and we will delete the account.

12. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers. Where required (e.g., GDPR), we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

14. Delete My Data

You have the right to request deletion of all personal data we hold about you. This includes your account information, team data, roster data, and any associated analytics. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

The button below covers personal data LineChange holds, including an account and the teams saved in it. A team created when you claim a ChatGPT draft is covered, the same as any other team. A draft that is still waiting for the sign-in link is deleted when you claim it, or after 7 days if you do not. The button does not delete the ChatGPT conversation, and it does not clear the lineup link from your browser history. Delete the conversation in ChatGPT, and clear that link from your browser history.

After submitting a request, we will verify your identity and process the deletion within 30 days. You will receive a confirmation email when your data has been removed.
